I was born and raised in Texas to a family rooted in law-enforcement and military service. I graduated high school early while attending a local community college at 15 and stayed one year to complete my associates degree with honors including the All Texas Academic Team and Summa Cum Laude.
I went on to attend university at Texas A&M graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Political Science, a Certificate in International Relations focused on Russian Relations and Military Studies, and the Hollingsworth Leadership Certificate. While there I joined the Corps of Cadets, the Corps of Cadets Marksmanship Unit, the Wiley Lecture Series, and was personally selected to take a graduate-level course on Conflict Studies while still completing my undergrad. I accumulated numerous honor’s including the Who’s Who Nominee; the Corps of Cadet’s Distinguished Student Award two years in a row; and the National Rifle Association’s All Scholastic Team Award.
I was slated to enter the more government side of intelligence gathering and analysis, but accepted an internship position in Washington, DC with the Heritage Foundation before becoming a Staff Assistant in the US Senate, assisting the legislative team with foreign affairs specifically on matters regarding Russian, Ukrainian, and Central Asia.
While I absolutely loved my time in Washington, DC; I was able to realize a very important fact about myself:
I have never been in this for the politics. I see the world in terms of data, probabilities, problems, and a puzzle. It’s our job to see things before they happen; craft a strategy to help avoid or mitigate it; and implement it. Some may call this naive. I call this an unbiased approach to life. We have one life and it’s too short to limit it to only caring about what benefits the bottom line. That doesn’t allow for out-of-the box thinking and is what lead’s to the downfall of companies. Just ask Xerox, or Yahoo.
I’m no stranger to this, as it’s what I’ve had do all my life, becoming a master of it.
Adapt. Improvise. Overcome.
It’s the motto for the Marine Corps. Something that was drilled into me throughout me entire life: from my father as a child, to my marksmanship coach. It’s what helped keep me grounded and shaped my worldview throughout life as it throws everything it can and more at you. This applies so aptly to business, strategy, and analysis; and for me, this bleeds into it as if it’s like breathing.
Life is going to bring change.
